The novel follows the story of Anahita, a young Iranian woman who has immigrated to the United States with her family. Anahita is a bright and ambitious young woman, but she struggles to fit in in her new country. She feels isolated and alone, and she longs for the home she left behind.

As Anahita navigates her new life in the United States, she begins to question her own identity. She is no longer sure who she is or where she belongs. She feels torn between her Iranian heritage and her American upbringing, and she struggles to find her place in the world.

Croft's writing is lyrical and evocative, and she paints a vivid picture of Anahita's inner and outer struggles. She captures the loneliness and isolation of the immigrant experience, as well as the complexities of identity formation.
